Imminent lockdown - March 23rd

First day of Taran at home for school.  Last night I was tearing my hair out setting up all the various techno links for his lessons today.  Linked up with Ivan his trumpet teacher smiling eagerly on his home sofa and he was clearly keen to chat on a Sunday night.  I was discussing with Suzy about backgrounds for all our calls we will be doing now.  I did scan my nosey eye over his room before concentrating on what he was saying.  Suzy was saying how her and Steve were working out what backgrounds to have at home.  Whether it should be shabby or the smarter part of the house.  They thought they might change according to who they were talking to.  Same for dress code.  She did one conference call and then realised there were huge damp stains behind her.  There will be a whole new world of background walls exposed over the next few months.

Mum had a great birthday and said she was actually relieved she didn't have to cook for guests and instead went on a lovely sunny walk.  In the evening her neighbours in full italian style sang Happy Birthday to her from their house.  Some good things are coming from this.

Taran and I played tennis and I was eagled eyed about where our balls were going and that no-one touched them.  It seems all so crazy this 'non touching' thing and my OCD tendency is now definitely taking it to the extreme.  As Taran hit a huge forehand I saw it swirling over towards a young couple who had just finished playing and it landed in his open HAND.  My face must have shown a horror movie expression as now this possible corona'd ball was hurtling it's way back to me and he had a big grin on his face and I had to say thank you.  And then once back in play I couldn't work out which ball it was.

The electrician is coming today which makes me nervous.  I'm prepping to ask him to wash his hands, take his shoes off and keep his distance.

Next day...

The electrician did come and I don't think he could believe it.  I asked him to take his dusty shoes off and wash his hands but it did trouble me that he only washed them for about 5 seconds and without soap. I was twitching as to whether I should mention it.  Then I followed him around most of the day (2 meters apart) and without him noticing wiping handles that he had touched.  I am an OCD person for sure so is this a perfect scenario for me as I am justified in my extreme behaviour or will this situation just exacerbate it.  In between surreptitious wiping I made polite 'corona' conversation to pretend I was fairly cool about the whole thing cracking a few jokes along the way.

Taran and I got out for the PE lesson with Ossi and kids in the park.  The'grinning' ball catcher was there again but at least he looked healthy.  There was a kid on the court next door who was sniffling and coughing so I was on ball alert again.  There was glorious sunshine which does make you forget what is going on.  The kids had a great time and seem untouched by the stress around them, well I hope they are.  Taran is so cheerful and at the end of the day said 'Mum that was a really good day. I think school at home is going to be great.'

BUT then Boris Winston Johnson addressed the nation.    He certainly has got his wish to be PM in a war time situation.  With sombre face and not as much blustery stuttering he told us the new school rules.  No more socialising.  One exercise trip our of the house a day.  Only essential travel.  Otherwise the Eton prefects will have to step up the punishment.  So this means no Wales for now but maybe we can go in a couple of weeks.  If we did, we wondered whether we would be sent back with a detention but Kelty and I do realise that we have to do what is best for others not for us.

Happy isolation lockdown everyone!
